I love hearing the origins of stories; I will take you back about 2,000 years, when Halloween marked the Celtic New Year and was originally called Samhain, which translates to “summer’s end” in Gaelic.
I wonder what life was like for an old woman back then… perhaps she was a widow dressed in black…. we know it’s harvest time, maybe this old woman was cooking and preserving the summer produce, while the family was out celebrating the harvest abundance.
Can you see the old woman without complaint, toiling over her hot cauldron as it bubbles and boils. Perhaps her cat was warming herself by the fire and kept her company as she worked late into the night…. she appears haggard, and yet joyous in her efforts to prepare for the coming long winter months…..witch they cried!
Not everything is as it seems….would you agree?
