Winning your Fitness is honestly and truly about having a steadfast belief in your ability to exercise consistently.
I often wonder…what makes an athlete a winner? It does seem unfair, that athletes work so hard for such a long time and are not guaranteed a win.
However, it must be exciting to have the ability to challenge the body to that level and then be amazed with its accomplishment irrespective of the win.
I know that I am constantly surprised with what I can do when I give myself the courage to try. Many of my student tell me it’s the same for them.
At the beginning of program I ask my participants to take a “before” note and at the end of the program the “after” note is always sooo inspirational!
What will it take for us to win in fitness?
We at Square Box Fitness focus on becoming fit for life and believe we have the ability to remain active and healthy for the years to come.
Therefore for us, setting hard and fast rules around fitness is not practical, and we prefer to use guidelines that will allow us to get closer to our future fitness without impinging too much on our way of life today.
The Australian recommended guidelines for weekly exercise are as follows:
- Accumulate 150 to 300 minutes (2 ½ to 5 hours) of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 to 150 minutes (1 ¼ to 2 ½ hours) of vigorous intensity physical activity, or an equivalent combination of both moderate and vigorous activities, each week.
- Do muscle strengthening activities on at least 2 days each week.
Exercise is unavoidable if you value a healthy active life. Our body’s physical fitness today depends on how it was exercised yesterday, and tomorrow’s fitness will depend on exercising today.
Dare to win your fitness
My most significant challenge as a fitness and nutrition coach has been to break through the misconception that only those with a genetically gifted body can exercise.
Our body: irrespective of its size and shape is made to move.
The truth is, we all have a body that can become fit. All we need is the courage to believe we have the ability to exercise today and everyday.
When it comes to winning a life time of fitness, it is important to have an unshakable belief in your power to workout – even for just 9 minutes every day.
