What does it mean to be young? It is simply, the ability to eat freely and move easily.

There is a difference between chronological and metabolic age. Chronological age is just a number; the other is related to lifestyle choices, of eating well and exercise.

Numerous studies confirm that you can significantly reduce your metabolic age by eating whole foods and exercise.  The calculation takes into account activity level and amount of body fat versus lean muscle mass.

Lean muscle mass drives metabolism, meaning, the more muscle you have, the more energy (calories) you use and the more you can eat!

Long after our 27-minute Shape-Up class is finished, our body continues to expend energy rebuilding the muscles used and regenerating our ability to be able to do it again next week!

Many of us struggle with the “science of fitness” because it changes faster than a model at a Vogue fashion fair….. Sincerely, everyday fitness requires only common sense.

One of my favorite Irish expression reads “Common sense is not so common, and enough of it is genius.”

The following are some of my common sense fitness ideas for you to try:

•    Schedule your day to include exercise and healthy food.
•    Drink predominately water.
•    Eat your fruit and vegetables, drinking them is not natural, irrespective of the health claims.
•    Exercise without fear and regret; any exercise is better than none, if you can’t come to class, give the online exercises a go and call me if you are unsure, I am here to help you.
•    Be kind to yourself, enjoy where you are now, and look forward to a fitter you.

.

I leave you this week with words of Lucille Ball, who I believe was a comic genius and had a great deal of common sense!

“The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly,

and lie about your age.”

Eat Well and Live Well
