Genetics play a significant role in shaping our physical traits – whether we’re tall or short, blonde or brunette. One universal truth, however, is that all of us will eventually experience greying hair with age. While our genetic makeup may seem like a lottery, when it comes to fitness, the story changes: all human bodies respond positively to exercise.

If you’ve ever wondered how genes influence fitness, Dr. Stephen Roth from the University of Maryland offers some insight. His research suggests that as physical activity increases, the influence of genetics on fitness decreases.

For example, among sedentary individuals, their aerobic fitness is largely determined by their genes. But in athletes, less than 50% of their fitness can be attributed to heredity. It is diet, exercise, and sleep that take precedence.

This makes sense: regardless of the genetic “hand” you’ve been dealt, fitness can always be improved through regular exercise.

This week, we’re testing our ability to stand still and move with strength and purpose. Our workout will challenge both body and mind. Losing balance is part of the process, but learning to recover safely and with stability is where growth happens. Keep moving forward – your fitness potential is in your hands!
