The health benefits of exercise are broadcasted loud and clear, and the message falls on what seem deaf ears. Those of us who exercise regularly know exercise is essential for maintaining long term health and fitness.

Unfortunately, the common perception among sedentary people is; exercise does not return the benefits for the time invested.

Lack of time is the single most significant barrier to exercise reported by Australians who do not meet the minimum exercise recommendation. (Journal of Aging and Physical Activity).

The following is the minimum exercise recommended guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO):

Adults aged 18–64 should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week or do at least 75 minutes of vigorous activity.

When we can identify our barrier to exercise, we will also be able to see the path forward and the solution.

Ensuring the success of our exercise program means we acknowledge we cannot “go-it-alone” (or we would have done it by now). The alternative is to continue to start/stop the next “best” “easy” “fast” “Get Fit Quick”  program, based on fantastical claims.

Each failure to maintain an exercise regime, entrenches the belief that exercise is too hard and a waste of time.

Exercise is hard, uncomfortable and without short term reward. However, I believe people who exercise are visionaries opening their life to endless possibilities that can only come from having health and WELLth.
