Challenging our stability on a Bosu ball can be “unsettling” as muscles work frantically to regain steady state. If the body is not equipped or fit to regain control, it tends to collapse under the stressful demand.
In Aeronautics, stability is defined as “the ability of an aircraft to resume its original flight path after inadvertent displacement.”
This definition is akin to our physical fitness, we can think of our body as a craft with which we travel through life.
If our exercising is “inadvertently displaced” then, our well-being will depend on our ability to get back on track.
The good news is; physical fitness can be re-established at any age. Back in 1966, researchers studied men 20 years of age. The study is known as the Dallas Bed rest and Training Study, and it looked at the effects on the body of 3 weeks total bed rest.
Researchers followed up the study 30 years later in 1996. In that study the researchers found that with 6 months endurance training, the 50-year-old men in the study were able to regain the aerobic power they had at 20. The powerful point made by the study is that 30 years of aging deteriorated the body less than the 3 weeks of total bed rest!
Any exercise will put you on a high; from there the sky’s the limit. Equip your body craft engine with an exercise overhaul and let’s fly!
It is now time for take off!
All the best with your exercise voyage!
