Starting a fitness program is terrifying; no one stands at the edge of a pool unable to swim with only a hope that if they jump into the deep end, they will miraculously swim.

“Sink or swim” is a figure of speech, and regarding your health, (I am sorry to say) this strategy will see you sink.   Preparation is the key to developing the skills necessary to improve your health and well-being.

The following mindset changes can be made today and with consistent daily exercise, fitness success is easily achievable.

  1. Understand your time is valuable and you can’t afford to be sick or tired.
  2. Plan your workout, the old saying is right –  if you don’t plan, you plan to fail.
  3. Exercise early in the morning so that nothing else will get in your way.
  4. Say NO: to anything that will interfere with your morning exercise. People will learn to work with you and may even join you!
  5. Surround yourself with like minds: ie other people who also value exercise – it will empower you and them.
  6. Hold yourself accountable and take responsibility for your health and well being.
  7. Believe in yourself and do what you can: a little exercise each day goes a long way.

What is it that makes people successful?

Simon Sinek is famous for his lectures on “start with why” in business success.  Finding your “Why” for exercise is equally fundamental to succeeding in living life well.  With a powerful “Why”, Simon says; the “how to” is always easy.

With a strong “Why” you don’t need someone else to motivate you or hold you accountable, you are driven by YOUR own need to succeed.

All great leaders share the quality of being personally driven, from Gandhi to the Wright brothers. They did not need to be held accountable or motivated to achieve the extraordinary and neither do you!

You already have what it takes to get into shape; all you need now is to answer: Why not?

Why not you?

The “Think Different” campaign for Apple was a great promotion – the “crazy ones” are the ones that change the world.

However, many of the famous people featured in the ad:  Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Sir. Richard Branson, John Lennon, etc. did not set out to change the world….they saw a better way of doing something and set out doing it for themselves.

On their journey, they inspired and empowered other like-minded people with their vision of a better world, and together they made social change.

Why not you? Why not start with yourself? Why not show the people you love dearly how daily exercise can help you and them live happy lives.

Your hopes and dreams for a better future are built on a foundation of health and the health of those you love. Go ahead, don’t be shy, exercise today and  “become the change you want to see in the world.”

Mahatma Gandhi is often attributed the above quote; however, he said something more profound:

  • “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him….. We need not wait to see what others do.”
