evolve fitness

It was great to be back and see you ready and excited for term 3!

Responding to your requests,  Eva and I are thrilled to trial the early bird classes at Epping next week giving everyone extra opportunity to Shape-UP!

5.45 am Epping Classes on Tuesday and Thursday

During breaks, we are always working on how to make the program better, more efficient and effective for you.

Our goal for this term is to improve fitness. With your help and using the modified Borg scale we hope to assess your improvements in fitness.

The Borg scale was developed by a Swedish psychologist, and it is used by coaches as a simple way of estimating the heart rate of athletes.

The Borg scale rates the athlete’s perceived exertion on a scale of 6 to 20, but it is a little confusing for everyday people like us.

The modified 1-10 scale is more user-friendly and we will be able to covert it back to the Borg scale based on your information.

The chief benefit of allocating a number to your workout efforts is that you will better understand how your fitness is progressing and how your body is coping with the workout.

Relying on your understanding of how your body is working, is an empowering method of assessing the progression of fitness.

In fact, relying on amateur electronics to monitor performance can be misleading and even dangerous; currently, there is a class action against a popular fitness device because the heart rate monitor can have a variance of up to 70 bpm.

It is also worth noting that the inaccuracy of the sleep motion sensors is producing anxiety about getting a good night sleep!

Understanding your body is the best gauge of fitness. Common sense will tell you that if you were struggling doing 3 push ups and now can do 10 easily, your fitness has improved.

Advances in sports science are amazing, and the more we learn about human movement, the more we get back to our traditional movement pattern of pushing, pulling, running and dancing for fitness.

I leave you this week with a thought about building fitness by an anonymous writer……

When things don’t happen right away just remember…

it takes 6 months to build a Rolls-Royce and 13 hours to build a Toyota.

Live well and eat well!
