We have come again to the end of term, and it felt great to exhale and reflect on our progress with pride!
.
The highlight of our program was the deadlift, an amazing exercise that relies on many muscles to work together to lift the weight efficiently.
Many of you were awestruck with what you could lift with proper coaching during the term.
In life, we will admire and respect strong individuals, who seem to overcome obstacles and difficulties and reach far, because of their inner strength.
Inner strength, we are taught, comes from discipline, dedication and hard work, an attitude that strives to meet goals irrespective of circumstances.
Working through my life, I have come to understand that, most people are not born with inner strength, but develop it with peace of mind and persistence.
It is not a matter of willpower
We are learning that exercise is often misunderstood by many as a function of “willpower.” We know, that no one can effectively “will” themselves into a training program.
It takes a great deal of preparation, scheduling and organisation to get to class, and sometimes it just doesn’t happen – that’s life, and its all good!
Mental and physical fitness is about learning the skills of self-discovery. With these skills, we have the option to choose our behaviour and reactions, instead of being ruled by them.
Studies have shown that the brain has limited power to make decisions and that minor decisions add up throughout the day, depleting our reserves.
With willpower depleted, we may find ourselves stress-eating more frequently, or choosing a “rest” over exercise.
Routine will win out over willpower 99% of the time, and after 10 weeks of exercising, it will feel weird not to have to get up so early to come to class.
It is a wonderful reward!!
Enjoying an active life is good exercise
Formal exercise is not the only way of improving fitness, getting out for a walk or hike is a fantastic way to bring together what we have learned in class.
It may be too cold for a swim; but barefoot running or walking on the beach is an excellent alternative. Not only does the body have to work hard to keep warm, running or walking on sand is a real workout for strength, balance, and flexibility.
Our program is a 10-week program, because we do not live to exercise, but rather exercise to live. By becoming more mobile, stronger, faster and fitter, we can enjoy our breaks with energy and vitality.
This term we saw the power and magic of consistently coming to class and exercising with focus and determination.
Well done all!
I leave you this term with words by Glinda, the Good Witch from Oz, acknowledging that magic is the journey of self discovery.
You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself
Have a great break and see in Term 3!
Anna
