make it happen

This week Geraldine blew us away!  With sore knees Geraldine advised she could not do the offset push ups – to our surprise she proceeded to do them on her toes!!

“Where there is a will there is a way” is an old English proverb and the basic premise is that if you want to do something you will.

Geraldine, with determination and over many months, conditioned her body until she was able to overcome the limitations of her knees.

Exercising with injury or a limitation can be tricky, following the advice of a health care professional, (doctor, physiotherapist, etc.),  is essential and offers the best solution for recovery.

Advising us of your condition and the health care professional’s advice means we can modify the workout so that you able to exercise effectively and safely.

I also encourage you to be self-aware and if an exercise does not feel right, let us know and we will work with you to find an exercise that is right for you.

Often injury is the body’s way of communicating a lifestyle imbalance. Physiologically we are not born symmetrical, and we grow to develop strengths and weakness based on our genetic makeup and environmental influences.

It is the reason that some people can run marathons while others can lift an enormous amount of weight, but rarely, if ever, can they do both.

It has been said that Albert Einstein wrote; “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

An example was this week’s Ali feet – for some, it was fun,  for others the exercise was confusing, and by week end we all agreed it was entertaining!

The exercise morphed into Irish dancing, Saturday night fever dance steps and some very creative combinations! The point is – it all counts as exercise!

Judging your ability to exercise by someone else’s exercise ability does not help you improve your fitness.

It gives ammunition to your belief that you are not made for exercise, that exercising will cause you injury and exercise is not your way of life.

Unfortunately: wishing, wanting and hoping to become healthier and fitter is not about exertion with the exercise of excuse.

Becoming a fitter version of yourself is about coming to class or contacting us and finding your capabilities. Then, work those abilities with determination and make your fitness happen.

Live well and eat well!
