Throughout history, status symbols have undergone significant transformations, reflecting shifts in societal norms and values. In the past, corpulence was often deemed a status symbol in certain cultures, with various connotations:

Firstly, being overweight conveyed affluence and abundance, as it signalled access to plentiful food resources, a luxury not afforded to the less fortunate. Moreover, it indicated freedom from strenuous physical labour, which was typically shouldered by the less privileged. In some societies, a plump figure was even associated with fertility and robust health, symbolizing an individual’s ability to withstand illness and nurture healthy offspring.

In contrast, the present era has seen material wealth emerge as a dominant status symbol. The possession of opulent assets, luxurious vehicles, and extravagant residences is emblematic of access to resources and influence within society. These possessions also serve as tangible proof of personal achievement and success, fuelling the association between wealth and status.

However, the modern age has ushered in a new status symbol—fitness. The awareness of physical health and well-being has surged, with fitness now signifying a disciplined and responsible lifestyle choice. Aesthetic ideals propagated by media have enhanced the allure of a toned physique, while social media has amplified the status of fitness by spotlighting the journeys and achievements of those who embrace it.

In essence, status symbols continually adapt to reflect the prevailing values and aspirations of their time. Our Fitness WELLth program is an easy and affordable way to improve your health beyond the “show and tell” lets get started!
