Being in a state of lockdown doesn’t mean our weight should spiral out of control.
In our previous lockdown, many people reported significant weight increases. IPSOS conducted a global study of 30 countries (including Australia) and found 31% of the population had gained weight, but also reported 20% had lost weight.
We have evolved as a species for survival with a high sensitivity to “dangerous news” and it doesn’t help us in our safe and modern world.
Statistically, we are more likely to maintain our weight in our current lockdown, with a strong possibility of making significant improvements to our health and well being.
We don’t need to be pessimistic about staying at home, we need to be realistic. Including daily exercise, eating mainly whole foods, eliminating snacking between meals and limiting alcohol to once or twice a week, are a few ways to keep healthy at home.
Making the most of our time during lockdown to focus on health and fitness will open the way for establishing WELLth for life.
